Your workout plan does not fit this week. Now what?

What to keep, what to cut and how to come back after time off, without starting over.

Keep the big moves and cut the extras. When a session gets shorter, do the first two or three main lifts and skip the accessories. When you miss a day, move on to the next session instead of doubling up. After a week or more away, start lighter than you left off and build back over a couple of weeks. A plan that bends is a plan you keep.

Less time today

Keep the moves that use the most muscle, such as a squat, a hinge, a press and a row, and drop the rest. Fewer sets done well beat a rushed full session.

A different gym, or no gym

Swap like for like: a barbell squat becomes a goblet squat, a machine row becomes a dumbbell or band row, a bench press becomes a push-up. The pattern matters more than the tool.

Back after time off

Coming back at your old weights is how people get hurt. Start a clear step lighter, see how the first session feels, and add weight back as the sets feel easier.

How KalmeFit helps

Tell Kalme what changed: less time, a sore shoulder, a different gym. With Plus, it adjusts today's workout to fit, and nothing changes until you say yes. Logging has no limit and costs nothing, and your history is always yours, so you can see where you left off.

Questions

Should I make up a missed workout?

Usually not. Move on to your next session. Doubling up to catch up tends to make the next days worse.

How do I restart after time off from the gym?

Start lighter than you left off, keep the moves you know, and add weight back over a couple of weeks as the sets feel easier.
